Dmitry Achkasov's bio in Russian language
Achkasov received his love of painting from his mother, who is regarded as one of the best oil painting restorers in Eastern Europe. He recalls the scent of paint permeating the air and the fact that his mother was constantly working on paintings in the family's apartment. The jazz pianist father of Achkasov encouraged his son's ambition to become a painter.
Achkasov relocated to Prague after earning his degree from the Kyiv National University of Architecture and Construction in 1989, where he produced his first significant works. Then he received an invitation to exhibit in NYC. At Boulder University in Colorado, Achkasov earned a degree in architecture in 1993.
“I’m always curious about how my works are perceived, not only by the citizens of my own country, but by people from different cultures,” Achkasov says.
