The Trypillian doll: Ukrainian history
Imagemaker Veronika Chekalyuk, known as a talented artist and researcher exploring the gastro-universe, has now ventured into the world of sculpture. Here is her unique creation — the Trypillian doll, part of a collection inspired by the ancient Trypillian culture. Veronika says: "This piece symbolizes the strength and legacy of an ancient civilization, which continues to live on in our traditions and ART. I have always been fascinated by history, and the Trypillian culture holds a special place in my studies. This doll, which I handcrafted from clay and carefully decorated, was inspired by this ancient civilization. In Trypillian culture, we women played a central role, symbolizing fertility, life, and a deep connection with nature. The doll embodies the image of Berehynia—the protector of humanity, safeguarding the family and the home.
This reverence for women as guardians and keepers of the family is still very much alive in modern Ukraine. Today, as it was thousands of years ago, we women continue to play a vital role in preserving family values, traditions, and national identity. We carry immense responsibilities both in our homes and at the national level, fighting for independence and protecting our shared homeland. Historical symbols like this Berehynia doll serve as lasting reminders of the strength and significance of our roles in society».
